The company name legally identifies the company and is used in contracts and invoices. It is
different from a trademark which provides legal protection against misuse of branding related
intellectural property, when registered, or a domain name which is connected to a website.
The company’s word name must conform to the following:
-
Have a distinctive element which would make it different from
other names of companies in the same line of business
such as Black in the company
name Black Hair Care Inc.
-
It is also recommended that the company name has a descriptive
element, which describes the type of business being operated, such as Hair Care in the
company name Black Hair Care Inc.
-
Be sufficiently distinct from other company names, business names
and trademarks so as to not cause confusion.
-
Not be misleading or contain any prohibited terms relating to
certain high-level organisations such as governments and the United Nations.
-
Not suggest governmental or institutional sponsorship or control.
-
Contain a legal element, which indicates the company is
incorporated, chosen from the selection: English: Limited, Incorporated,
Corporation
— abbreviations: Ltd., Inc., & Corp. French: Limitée, Incorporée, Société par actions
de régime fédéral —
abbreviations: Ltée., Inc., & S.A.R.F.
